West Linn Library Moves Programs Online
Librarians Are Working Hard to Keep Programs Going During Pandemic
WEST LINN, OR – August 28, 2020 – The West Linn Public Library is offering online programs for all ages this fall.
The big event this fall will be the 4th annual Kindergarten Carnival, an event designed to connect kindergartners and their families with the library, its staff, and resources, which was attended by 257 people in 2019.
“We didn’t want to cancel it just because we can’t all be together in person,” said Children’s Librarian, Kimberley Rhoades. “We thought we’d do the next best thing where families can grab a packet from us at the curb on October 1st and then participate in the carnival from home.” Families can register on the library’s website at westlinnlibrary.org. Packets will include a free book, bookmark, STEM activities, and more, plus instructions on participating in the virtual Kindergarten Carnival happening October 1-9 on the Beanstack app.
Other programs on the schedule include weekly virtual storytimes, office hours where kids can talk to a librarian in real-time and get help finding books, a teen manga club, drawing tutorials, how to find a geocache, and a program about wills and trusts. A take-and-make craft series will begin in October starting with graveyard terrariums for adults. Some programs require registration; please check the library’s website for details.
With the Community Room art gallery empty and closed, art exhibits are moving online as well. Artists of any age and skill level can submit artwork in keeping with that month’s theme. September’s theme is “wood” and artwork can be submitted via the library’s website until 5pm on September 24.
The library started offering virtual programs almost immediately after closing in mid-March. Since then staff have offered cookbook reviews and recipe demos, live trivia nights, craft time for kids, author talks, STEM videos, and bedtime stories through the library’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
Those wishing to check out items from the library can place a hold at www.lincc.org. Once items are ready patrons can pick them up via the curbside service being offered Monday through Friday. Thousands of ebooks, e-audiobooks, and streaming movies are available through Library2Go, CloudLibrary, and Kanopy.
