Traffic Slowdowns Expected in West Linn Tomorrow, Nov 16, as ODOT Safety Precaution
WEST LINN, OR – November 15, 2023 – The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) issued a news release Wednesday afternoon of November 15th, 2023, regarding traffic delays expected on I-205 west of OR-43. Rolling slowdowns and closures will occur on Thursday, November 16th, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM as ODOT crews perform a controlled detonation of two blasting caps discovered underground, likely used during the original construction of the Abernethy Bridge.
The work zone will be a restricted access area and will be secured by law enforcement. The detonation is expected to take 15 minutes, but slowdowns are needed as a safety precaution. ODOT reports there is no immediate danger to the public, but advises drivers to expect long delays and plan ahead for the following:
I-205 Slowdowns:
- Traffic will slow down in both directions – Northbound and Southbound on I-205 allowing for a 15-minute window for detonation to occur. Drivers should expect lengthy delays and are encouraged to plan ahead.
Ramp Closures:
- The onramp from OR 43 and OR 99E to I-205 Southbound will be closed.
- 10th Ave. onramp to I-205 Northbound will be closed. Drivers should expect lengthy delays and are encouraged to plan ahead.
Restricted Work Zone:
- The 300-foot underground detonation zone will be a restricted access area and will be secured by law enforcement.
Roads Closed in West Linn:
- Roads will be closed to traffic and parking on West A Street and Broadway Street, between Buse Street and Willamette Falls Drive.
The City of West Linn and the West Linn Police Department are coordinating with ODOT officials and West Linn-Wilsonville School District officials regarding traffic impacts, road closures, and public safety. ODOT encourages drivers to visit www.tripcheck.com to view real-time traffic information.
